The annual conference of the Society for Cognitive Studies of the Moving Image (SCSMI) welcomes you to the Aalto University, Helsinki, Finland, June 11th – 14th, 2017

Katalin Bálint is an assistant professor at Tilburg University (NL) in New Media Design. She was a postdoc researcher at Utrecht University (NL) and after that at University of Augsburg (DE). Her research expertise lies in the domains of psychology, film studies and communication science. She investigates the subjective experience of narratives and character engagement, and also the effect of structural and formal features on viewers’ social cognition with fictional characters. She is particularly interested in responses with high social value, such as empathy and theory of mind. With this line of research Katalin hopes to further the knowledge on the visual design of messages with prosocial content. Her papers have been published in e.g. Projections, Journal of Media Psychology, and Scientific Study of Literature.
