Receptive Cinema
Narrative & Audience Engagement Designer: Film & Media
United Kingdom
Keith is a world-wide recognised expert in suspense and audience engagement offering a unique storytelling consultancy service to the film and media industries. He has a Ph.D. in Film and Television Studies (the science of storytelling: suspense) from the University of Nottingham, England. Keith’s research advances current understanding about audience experiences of suspense by synthesising three data sets: film textual analysis, viewer psychophysiological responses and viewer’s self-reports. The outcome of his research led to the development of a psychophysiological model of suspense that identifies the filmmakers’ blind spots that they are unaware of and provides a new form of film analysis for film studies and media psychology.
As a narrative and audience engagement designer Keith resolves the filmmakers’ blind spots by synthesising cinematic storytelling with the DNA of audience engagement, maximising returns consistently. However, his techniques do not interfere or limit the artistic creativity of the filmmaker such as the screenwriter, director, producer or editor, it simply expands the filmmakers’ language by aligning cinematic storytelling with the DNA of viewer engagement.
